Brooke created Four Legs & A Soul to bring balance into the relationship between animals and the people in their lives.  By fostering a partnership of respect, trust and compassion, Four Legs & A Soul provides clients with the tools to communicate more clearly, solve problems more effectively, compete more happily and co-exist more fully.

Four Legs & A Soul grew out of Brooke’s 30-plus years in the embrace of the animal kingdom.  From the youngest age, Brooke sought the company of four-leggeds, creatures who have always been her best listeners and teachers.  Horses and dogs, in particular, shaped her understanding of the natural world and set her on this healing path.  Four Legs &

A Soul emerged from this devotion to equine and canine rescue and rehabilitation and from her passionate desire to help all animals and people communicate fluently.

The Four Legs & A Soul logo combines the images of two extraordinary individuals: a horse named Lightning and a dog called Belle, who together led Brooke to her work as a communicator and healer; taught her much of what she needed to know about the mind-body-spirit connection; and continue to inspire her everyday.

Lightning was a stunningly beautiful, intelligent and insightful grey mare, who allowed Brooke to learn with her and to make many mistakes.  Grace embodied, Lightning passed away in 2007 at the age of 23.  But in their years together, Lightning taught Brooke lessons of boundless potential, great love and fierce determination.  In life, Lightning was intimately connected to the spirit world, and continues to serve as a dominant guide in Brooke’s work, helping her to share healing and illuminate complex cases.

Belle, a golden Labrador retriever mix, is Brooke’s shadow soul, and they have spent many lifetimes at one another’s side.  As Brooke’s first personal rescue, Belle continues to impart invaluable teachings about animals’ recovery from trauma, learning styles, emotional landscapes and language.  She leads from her heart and

has taught Brooke to work, talk and heal from the same.  She gives Brooke patience and is a constant reminder of the power in waiting.

Each of the animals who live with Brooke and her husband, Wood, share unique messages and add to the growing collection of tools in her kit.  Harmony, a young yellow lab mix, is a Master Healer herself and is often able to open up people and animals, helping them to release and thus repair.  Scout, a recently rescued black lab, is an old soul, drawn to people and animals in need of physical healing.  Spellbound, a rakish and princely horse whose good looks hide great insecurity and whose hot attitude disguises profound empathy, encourages Brooke to be sensitive, to tune in, turn invisible, quietly seek the answers each animal requires.  Hudson, a young but very large Clydesdale, brought home from the horrors of the Premarin industry, presents Brooke with new and unexpected challenges on a daily basis, keeping her light on her toes, swift in her decision-making yet kind and clear in her discipline.

Thunder, Lightning’s now 27-year old mate, is the bedrock of the barn: a great and gentle leader, who always stands his ground and whose quiet presence is enough to make a very strong point.  Finally, Lulu and Duma, two kittens whom Harmony invited home, have taught Brooke about the importance of fostering independent spirits.  Together, this animal kingdom personifies Four Legs & A Soul.

As Brooke’s first personal rescue, Belle’s legacy shines brightest through Brooke’s work with animals and people recovering from trauma. She taught Brooke about the many different learning styles, emotional landscapes and languages of the animal kingdom, and helped her work, talk and heal from the heart as well as the mind.

Over the years, Brooke has known and worked with many exceptional animals who have continued to influence her healing work and point her toward new skills and deeper, more nuanced perceptions. Ultimately, the animals are the greatest teachers.
